2010 - Directed by Jill Navarre (with students from Udavi Gentilesse School, Edayanchavadi village)
INTRODUCTION:
There
is a great delight amongst young and old when playing with the text of Sri
Aurobindo’s epic poem Savitri. I have taken
this text, as well as the Savitri text from the Mahabharata in English, and created a new and exciting version of
the Savitri story for young people. It is written mainly to introduce them to
the story and make it new and fresh for them by adapting it and including a
modern version of the heroine as well as a traditional heroine. I hope this play will encourage young
people to take a look afresh at the story and maybe they would also like to
read the poem by Sri Aurobindo after this production. I have noticed that young
people in Auroville are afraid of this great epic poem, thinking that it is too
difficult to understand, and I would like to make it less scary for them.
