STATEMENT FROM RONALD RAND
It is my greatest hope in working with Jill Navarre, Artistic Director of The Auroville Theatre Group, to stage a workshop production of the full-length new opera of IBSEN, by myself, Ronald Rand, and my collaborator, Hartmut von Lieres. In his time, Henrik Ibsen exposed the conflicts and stresses of modern life that inhibit and even destroy the individual. Of utmost importance for Ibsen was also freedom of the individual, which he believed is essential for self-fulfillment. Auroville is dedicated to human unity, where men and women are able to live in peace and harmony, being a bridge from the past to the present. It was founded as a place of unending education, of constant progress. Ideally, by having the first presentation of this important new opera in Auroville would essentially bring to audiences not only Ibsen’s deep passion for self-realization, but contribute to the great spirit that exists in such a place, and be able to provide the impetus for this opera’s development and growth into an important work of art enlightening and inspiring today’s audiences throughout the world.
